August 21st, 2017 will mark a rare and joyous occasion in history: The Great American Eclipse! With all the excitement that is being stirred up we want to make sure that you have the necessary information to keep you and your cool canine safe!
There will be 14 different states where the sun will be totally blocked but the chance to see a partial eclipse will be in a lot of other places including Virginia. So, before you go have fun we want to make sure that you are prepared.
The name of the game in a total eclipse is SAFETY. Cool Canines wants to make sure you understand that looking at the eclipse can having damaging effects on your eyes and even cause blindness. And not only can you go blind but the eclipse can blind your canine too!
But, don’t panic!
Dogs and cats alike do not instinctually stare or even look up at the sun so there is a pretty small chance that they will be affected. If you are going to take your cool canine for a walk during the eclipse, just don’t force them to stare at the sun and if you want to air on the safe side, it might be best just to keep them inside.
So, if you haven’t already, make sure to get a pair of acceptable eye protection for you and your family if you plan on witnessing this phenomenon and don’t forget to keep your cool canine safe and sound as well!
